Girls trained on reusable sanitary pads and menstrual beads in Limbe

On the 22nd and 23rd of December 2018, Girls Excel with the support of UK in Cameroon trained over 27 adolescents Girls in the South West Region of Cameroon on menstrual Hygiene management (MHM) within the framework of our Menstrual Hygiene Campaign in Schools funded by the British High Commission,Yaounde.

Taking place at the Women’s Empowerment Center in Limbe, the two day workshop brought together 27 adolescent girls from Harper Wise, GHS Mbonjo, GHS Bonadikombo, Kulu Memorial College, Kemonde Veterian College, Full Gospel Church Moliwe, Saker Baptist College under the auspices of the Sub Divisional Delegate for Youth Affairs, Limbe I.

Collaborating with other local organisations like New Dawn Foundation, Hope for Vulnerables and Orphans, Amen Foundation, the workshop educated Girls on good menstrual Hygiene practices and other reproductive health issues such as the dangers of teenage pregnancy, HIV/AIDs etc. The girls also learned the art of making their own washable sanitary pads as well as their own menstrual beads to understand their cycle and know when to take their sanitary pads to school. At the end of the training, the participants received a certificate of participation qualifying them as peer educators to train their peers.

Girls Excel is a social impact organization that creates access to sexual and reproductive health education and feminine hygiene products for girls and young women in rural communities in Cameroon. We exists to create communities in which the absence of sexual and reproductive health education no longer hinder girls from pursuing their education and development.
